Considering connecting to a hotel or channel manager to add dynamic rates to your inventory? Tourplan has connections to over 30 external supplier systems providing real-time access to global accommodation and non-accommodation products, with many of our clients growing their business as a direct result of the connectivity options we offer.  Our strategic partnerships manager Lorna works closely with both Tourplan clients and external supplier systems to scope and deliver connectivity projects.  Lorna recommends suppliers ask some key questions to ensure supplier connectivity is the right choice for them, including:

What products and rates are offered?

Does the supplier provide the products and rate types you are wanting to book via the external supplier connection?  Discuss with your suppliers what products will be available to you from day one, and what rates types they offer (EG gross or nett) to ensure a smooth onboarding.  If the product is not currently bookable via the external supplier connection, it pays to ensure there is clear information on when they will be available.

Payments, cancellations and workflows

How will you pay for your bookings?  Not all suppliers offer traditional monthly direct billing for products booked via external supplier connections.  If payment is required by Credit Card to confirm an externally made booking, you will need to investigate setting up an account with a VCC (Virtual Credit Card) partner.  Currently, Tourplan only works with the VCC provider ‘WEX’.  Consider how your accounting workflows may need to be adjusted for credit card supplier payments. Finally, don’t forget to consider workflow adjustments that may be needed should your teams have increased or new access to booking non-refundable products.

External supplier system costs

External supplier systems may have additional fees.  Some have per booking fees, and may have minimum volume requirements.  Others may require one off fees such as an establishment, or annual maintenance fee.  Be sure to understand what commercial terms and sales volumes are required so you can enjoy the rewards without the risk.
